Dr. A. N. M. Mominul Islam Mukut is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur, Bangladesh. He currently serves as the Director of the Institute of Energy Engineering (IEE), DUET, and as a Member of the DUET Syndicate, contributing to institutional governance, academic policy formulation, and strategic decision-making at the highest level. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from DUET in 2021, where his doctoral research focused on the development and performance evaluation of double-sided plasma vortex generators for flow separation control. His work addressed key limitations of conventional active and passive flow-control techniques and contributed to improved aerodynamic efficiency and drag reduction through combined experimental and computational approaches. He completed his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), specializing in wind energy assessment and renewable energy feasibility, and obtained his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) with First Class First distinction. With over 18 years of academic, research, and administrative experience, Dr. Mukut’s expertise includes computational fluid dynamics (CFD), vehicle aerodynamics, plasma-based flow control, renewable and sustainable energy systems, tidal and wind energy technologies, thermal engineering, waste-to-energy systems, carbon capture, and industrial safety engineering. He has been actively involved in several nationally competitive, externally funded research initiatives. He is currently serving as the Mechanical Expert of the project titled “Sustainable Electricity Generation from Tidal Lagoons in Coastal Bangladesh: A Demonstration toward Climate-Resilient Infrastructure”, funded by the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (EPRC). The project, with a total allocation of BDT 380.00 lakh, focuses on tidal lagoon–based power generation systems, climate-resilient infrastructure design, hydrodynamic performance analysis, and techno-economic feasibility for coastal Bangladesh. In addition, Dr. Mukut is serving as Associate Project Manager (ASPM) of the major research project titled “Carbon Capture from Exhaust Gas for Sustainable Industrial Effluent Treatment Process”, funded by GoB-UGC HEAT, with a total grant of BDT 586.00 lakh. This large-scale project integrates carbon capture technologies with industrial effluent treatment processes, aiming to convert captured CO₂ into value-added products and promote sustainable, low-carbon industrial systems in Bangladesh. In January 2026, he successfully completed his tenure as Secretary of the 3rd International Conference on Mechanical, Manufacturing and Process Engineering (ICMMPE 2026), following his earlier roles as Chief Editor of ICMMPE 2022 and ICMMPE 2024. Through these leadership roles, he significantly enhanced international research visibility, conference quality, and academic networking for DUET. Dr. Mukut has an extensive publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, particularly in aerodynamic drag reduction, plasma vortex generator technology, CFD-based numerical and experimental studies, renewable energy systems, and sustainable power generation. He actively supervises PhD and M.Sc. researchers in advanced areas such as hydrogen generation technologies, bioenergy systems, carbon capture, thermochemical energy conversion, and climate-resilient energy infrastructure, contributing to postgraduate research excellence and national capacity building. Beyond research and teaching, he has made notable contributions to academic administration and student development. He served as Director (Transport), DUET from 2021 to 2025, overseeing large-scale operational management. From 2014 to 2020, he served as Assistant Provost in different student halls, supporting student welfare and residential academic life. He also served twice as Secretary of the Departmental Consultancy Research and Testing Service (CRTS) (2018–2021 and 2024–2025), strengthening industry–academia collaboration and applied research services. Furthermore, he is currently serving as an External Member of the Academic Committee for Research and Studies (ACRS) at the Institute of Energy Technology, CUET, contributing to postgraduate research quality assurance at the national level. At the international level, Dr. Mukut serves as a reviewer for several reputed journals published by IEEE, Elsevier, MDPI, and other leading publishers, covering areas such as fluid mechanics, CFD, automotive engineering, power and energy systems, applied thermal sciences, and sensor technologies. His sustained reviewing engagement reflects strong international recognition of his expertise and commitment to maintaining global research standards. Dr. Mukut’s professional profile reflects a balanced integration of high-impact research, sustainability-driven innovation, postgraduate mentorship, academic leadership, and institutional service. His work continues to advance globally relevant engineering education, climate-resilient infrastructure development, and sustainable technological transformation in Bangladesh.
