A.N.M. Mominul Islam Mukut, PhD

Dr. A N M Mominul Islam Mukut is a Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur, Bangladesh since 2006. Currently he is working as Director of the Institute of Energy Engineering (IEE), DUET and Member of DUET Syndicate. He has been playing a vital role in academic leadership, institutional governance and strategic development of engineering education and research. Dr. Mukut obtained his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from DUET in 2021 with a specialization in plasma-based flow control and aerodynamic drag reduction. He received the Ph.D. degree on the design and performance evaluation of double-sided plasma vortex generators for flow separation control and improvement of aerodynamic performance. He did his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) where he researched on wind characteristics and feasibility of renewable energy in the coastal regions of Bangladesh. Prior to this, he completed his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) with First Class First position. His bachelor thesis at RUET was focused on the design, fabrication, and performance evaluation of a solar paddy dryer, reflecting his early dedication to renewable energy research. Dr. Mukut has nearly two decades of experience in teaching, research, consultancy and academic administration. His core expertise includes energy engineering, thermal engineering, aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), flow control technologies, renewable energy systems, biofuel and bioenergy technologies, microbial fuel cells, carbon capture and utilization, waste-to-energy systems, industrial safety and climate-resilient energy infrastructure. His current research activities include sustainable energy technologies, carbon capture and utilization, advanced bioenergy systems, hydrogen generation, thermo-chemical energy conversion, and aerodynamic performance enhancement. He is currently working as the Associate Project Manager of the GoB-UGC HEAT funded flagship project, “Carbon Capture from Exhaust Gas for Sustainable Industrial Effluent Treatment Process” with total grant of BDT 587.86 lakh. The project is to develop novel carbon capture and utilization technologies for sustainable industrial decarbonization and environmental protection. He is also functioning as Mechanical Expert of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC) funded project on sustainable electricity generation from tidal lagoons in coastal Bangladesh for developing climate resilient renewable energy infrastructure and sustainable coastal energy systems. He also acts as reviewer and evaluator for research proposals and projects funded by Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC). He is also the head of the Thermofluid and Energy Research Lab (TERL) at DUET, where he supervises PhD and M.Sc. researchers on energy engineering, carbon capture, bioenergy, thermofluid sciences, CFD and aerodynamics. With TERL, he actively promotes high quality research, innovation and international scholarly publishing, helping develop the next generation of engineering researchers and professionals. Dr. Mukut has extensive experience in engineering consultancy and energy assessment outside of academic research. In 2026, he served as an active energy expert in performance and energy audits of generation, transmission and distribution facilities under the Power Division, Government of Bangladesh, contributing to national efforts to enhance energy efficiency and operational performance in the power sector. Dr. Mukut has served in various important leadership and administrative positions in DUET like Director (Transport), Assistant Provost of different student halls and Secretary of Departmental Consultancy Research and Testing Service (CRTS) for two terms. He is also a present external member of the Academic Committee for Research and Studies (ACRS) of Institute of Energy Technology, CUET. He was also the Secretary of the 3rd International Conference on Mechanical, Manufacturing and Process Engineering (ICMMPE 2026) after being the Chief Editor of ICMMPE 2022 and ICMMPE 2024. Dr. Mukut is an active member of the international research community and reviewer for several reputed journals such as IEEE Sensors Journal, MDPI Processes, Progress in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Physics of Fluids, Heliyon, CFD Letters, International Journal of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, International Journal of Power Electronics and other leading journals in energy and engineering sciences. Dr. Mukut’s continued contribution in research, postgraduate supervision, professional service and institutional leadership is progressing sustainable energy technologies, engineering innovation and research excellence that contribute to developing climate-resilient infrastructure and a sustainable energy future for Bangladesh and beyond.
