Professor Dr. Md. Sharafat Hossain is a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur. He currently serves as a Professor of EEE and holds several important administrative roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Member of the Syndicate. Over the years, he has also contributed significantly to institutional leadership through positions such as Head of the EEE Department, Provost of FR Khan Hall, and Associate Director of Student Welfare. Dr. Hossain earned his PhD in Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering from the University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2013. He completed both his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2008 and 2004, respectively. His academic foundation was laid at Dhaka College and Rotary School, Khulna. A highly accomplished researcher, Dr. Hossain specializes in solar photovoltaic (PV) cells, thin-film solar technology, and novel PV materials, including CdTe, CIGS, and CZTS. His broader research interests include renewable energy systems, solar photovoltaic applications, and nanotechnology. He has made notable contributions to the development and optimization of high-efficiency thin-film solar cells, including extensive work on CdTe and ZnxCd₁₋ₓS structures, perovskite-related materials, and back-surface-field engineering. Dr. Hossain has led and contributed to several funded research projects supported by UGC and international collaborators. His works have been published in leading journals such as Solar Energy, Optical Materials, Thin Solid Films, Results in Physics, Chalcogenide Letters, and Current Applied Physics. With more than 80 publications ( journals, conferences, book's chapter), he is recognized for his significant contributions to the advancement of thin-film PV research. In addition to research, he has provided valuable service through consultancy, testing, and sponsored research activities within the university’s EEE department. Dr. Hossain continues to mentor students, lead academic programs, and contribute to the growth of renewable energy research in Bangladesh.
