Md. Mostafizur Rahman, PhD

I am a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur. I am passionate about learning and teaching and enjoy lively interaction with my beloved students. I did my PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from RMIT University Australia and was awarded a Vice-chancellor PhD scholarship (VCPS) which is the most prestigious scholarship (among all scholarships of RMIT University). My PhD thesis title is “Controlling Biodegradation and Corrosion of Magnesium (Mg) and Mg Alloys with Interfacially Engineered Hybrid Coating.” This research work is a breakthrough in the field of biomedical engineering for bone repair applications. During my PhD, I developed a novel interfacial engineering approach and focused on the improvement of corrosion and degradation resistance of Mg alloys in the physiological environment for medical applications. I have used some advanced characterization techniques including Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (EDS), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), 3-D Profiler, Nanoindenter, Vicker’s Hardness Testers and so on to validate my experimental results. I have also performed cellular activities using L929 mouse fibroblasts and MC3T3-E1 osteoblasts cells for the evaluation of cytotoxicity and cell adhesion. In addition, I have extensively used electrochemical measurement instruments for the potentiodynamic polarization test (PDP), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanostatic cycling tests to assess the corrosion resistance of the tested samples. Currently, my research interest encompasses interfacial Engineering, surface coatings, bioinspired materials and their chemistry and hybrid materials.
