Shahjalal Khandaker, PhD

Professor, Department of Textile Engineering, DUET, Gazipur

Shahjalal Khandaker is a Bangladeshi textile and environmental engineer, academician, and researcher, widely recognized for his innovative contributions to wastewater treatment and sustainable textile solutions. Background and Education: Born in 1981, Khandaker completed his B.Sc. in Textile Engineering from the University of Dhaka and later earned both his M.Sc. and PhD in Environmental Engineering. He received his doctoral degree from Kyushu University, Japan in 2018 , under the prestigious MEXT Scholarship, and further he awarded highly prestigious JSPS Postdoctoral research Fellowship in 2022 for 2 years for advanced research at the same university. Career Highlights: He began his academic career as a lecturer at Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) in 2010 and became a professor in 2019. He has served as the Head of the Department of Textile Engineering at DUET. Currently, he is working as an addition Director , Research and Extension (DRE), DUET and a CASR member for 3 years. Moreover, he works as an adjunct faculty at Islamic University of Technology (IUT) and Bangladesh University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT). His research focuses on environmental sustainability in the textile sector, including adsorption technology, wastewater treatment, heavy metal removal, and the recycling of textile waste. Impact and Recognition: He has more than 50 high impact journal articles and over 4000 citation. He visited attained several conferences and workshop in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and India. He received the best presentation award from the Agricultural and Environmental conference in National University, Singapore in 2018. He selected as the World’s Top 2% Most Influential Scientists (2023–2024) by a global database prepared by Stanford University and Elsevier. He has received multiple international honors, including the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship and Kyushu University travel grants, and has led several research projects funded by JSPS and UGC Bangladesh. His scientific contributions have been published in high-impact Q1 journals, and he actively serves as an editor and reviewer for international research publications.
